About the country
The program begins with a week-long English course in New York. A modern language school with forty years of experience is located right in the center of Manhattan. The cost of the program includes tuition (16 hours per week, classes — no more than 10 students each) and accommodation in a youth hostel, which is located a few blocks from the school. After graduation from school, the second part of the program begins — a tour of colleges and universities in the United States.
Your journey through the US Northeast will begin in New York. There are many names and definitions of this city. Big apple. The city that never sleeps... Capital of the world... UN Headquarters... For starters, a city tour with a visit to the observation deck on the Empire State Building. Soon you will see New York University, founded in 1831, the largest private university in the United States. Then — Columbia University, founded in 1754 as King’s College. It is the oldest institution in the state of New York and the fifth oldest institution in the United States. Columbia is one of the world’s leading research institutions, conducting pioneering research in medicine, science, the arts and the humanities. This part of the tour will end with a ferry excursion to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, which served as the main US immigration center from 1892 to 1954. And the Statue of Liberty, which was given to the United States as a gift of friendship from the people of France in 1886, is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
The tour will end with a visit to Boston, one of the oldest cities in America. Boston was founded in 1630 and is now the economic and cultural center of New England. You will have a city tour and then an information session at Harvard University, the oldest university in the United States, consisting of ten separate academic divisions. You will also visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), one of the most prestigious technical universities in the world. The university has five schools and one college, 32 scientific departments. MIT is a world leader in science and technology, robotics and artificial intelligence. The Institute is also renowned in many other fields, including management, economics, linguistics, political science, and philosophy. 77 members of the MIT community are Nobel Prize winners. A visit is also planned to Boston University, which is the fourth largest private university in the country.
And finally, founded in 1898, Northeastern University, which is known for its Cooperative Education (Co-op) program, consisting of eight semesters of full-time study and three semesters of practical work in a specialty.
